February Side Hustle Turtle Update

Web Development

Every once in a while, I do some web development for a client. This month, I upgraded their website. Warning: the next paragraph is very boring. For those interested, here are the details. I built the website using code in a couple different programming languages (PHP, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS). Every year or so, new versions of those languages come out, and the old versions get deprecated (no longer updated). Using outdated languages can sometimes put your website at risk.

To upgrade the version of the language, you have to replace the old version which can sometimes be catastrophic. Thankfully, I had a local version of the website (known as a local development environment), and I found most of the issues from upgrading locally (and not on “production”). If you feel like your brain is about to explode, that’s okay. It took me a long time to grasp all of the terminology, and I learned it very slowly (like a turtle). There’s more I could say about that, but I’ll stop torturing you with the details.

Rental Property

I spent $50 dollars on various insect/draft blockers for my basement door. It allows a lot of insects like spiders, roly polys, beetles, sprickets (cave crickets), and flying stuff. Nothing really worked. Eventually, I ended up using duck tape in a creative way.

Knife Sharpening

I cleaned out the shed and set up a table using some plywood. We’ll see if that motivates me to sharpen knives.

Lending

Not doing much with this.
